NUT held “Symposium on SDGs-oriented Monodzukuri in the field of microorganisms and fermentation”

Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) held “NUT x AIST Collaboration Symposium on SDGs-oriented Monodzukuri in the field of microorganisms and fermentation” on February 15, 2019 with the cooperation of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). In the symposium, more than 60 specialists in each field gathered together to share research results.

NUT was appointed to a United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub for SDG 9 (Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation) by the United Nations as an exemplar of an innovative approach to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are also promoting the creation of innovation and the sustainable development of related industries in the field of microorganisms and fermentation.

In this symposium, Dr. Yoichi Kamagata, Deputy Director General, Department of Life Science and Biotechnology, AIST gave a special lecture entitled “Introduction of R&D efforts at Department of Life Science and Biotechnology, AIST”. In addition, specialists in each research field presented cutting-edge research on microorganisms and fermentation that could contribute to achieving SDGs.

This symposium was held at “NaDeC Base”, the collaboration base of three universities and one college of technology in Nagaoka City in central urban area of Nagaoka, and many citizens participated.
