UNAI Student Essay Contest “Many Languages, One World 2015”

Winners will be invited to New York to participate in a series of events, including a Global Youth Forum on the sustainable development agenda in the context of multilingualism, cultural diversity and global citizenship at United Nations Headquarters, during the week of July 20-26, 2015.
 

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in collaboration with ELS Educational Services, Inc., (ELS) invites students, 18 years and older, who are enrolled in a full-time course of study at a college or university, to participate in an essay contest through the Many Languages, One World programme.

The essay should relate to the post-2015 global development agenda, in the context of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, and the definition of new goals reflecting the imperative of global sustainable development that recognises, and is enriched by, cultural and linguistic diversity. Students wishing to participate (“Entrants”) are encouraged to visit the website http://sustainabledevelopment.un.org for background material in this regard. Entries, of up to 2000 words in length should be in an official language of the United Nations that is not the first language of the Entrant or the principal language of instruction in his or her primary or secondary education. The official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

A Faculty Member or other representative authorized by the institution will be required to complete a Reference Form attesting that the Entrant is a current full-time student of the institution in good standing, that the essay is written in a language that is not the Entrant’s first language or the principal language of instruction during the Entrant’s primary or secondary education, and that the entry is the original, unaided work of the entrant. Entries must be uploaded in MS Word format to the website ManyLanguagesOneWorld.ELS.edu by Wednesday, March 25th, 2015 at 11:59 pm Eastern Standard Time.
