Shohoku College – Advancing Education for a Better Future
Since its establishment in 1974, Shohoku College has remained true to its founding mission: to nurture individuals who can make a genuine contribution to society. For half a century, across changing times and generations, we have consistently developed graduates who play active and meaningful roles in their communities.
In 2024, as we look toward the future and our continued evolution, we have defined a new Value Proposition—the unique value we provide to our students:
To offer a rich and engaging learning environment where every student can quickly and confidently acquire a broad range of social competencies, enabling them to become work-ready professionals who contribute to the regional economy and society from the moment they graduate.
This pledge reflects our unwavering commitment to:
1. Supporting each student’s academic journey and career preparation with dedication and responsibility;
2. Providing, as the only comprehensive junior college in Kanagawa Prefecture, not only diverse specialized knowledge and practical skills, but also fostering personal integrity, cultural refinement, and human potential;
3. Ensuring that student life is vibrant, enjoyable, and enriching.
This year marks the fourth year since Shohoku College fully incorporated the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into all aspects of our educational activities. As United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres remarked in his message for the 10th anniversary of the UN Academic Impact (UNAI) in 2010, “Education is one of the greatest forces for progress in the world.” Indeed, education is vital to driving meaningful social change.
With our recent admission to UNAI, we will take this opportunity to further enhance our educational mission—not only on campus, but also through collaborations with member institutions in Japan and around the world, as well as through student-led initiatives—embracing a truly global perspective.
We look forward to working together toward a brighter, more sustainable future.
