Special Japan Day Held at Osaka University of Tourism
On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Osaka University of Tourism hosted “Special Japan Day” as part of the final international exchange event of the academic year, Japan FESTIVAL. This event provided an opportunity to experience traditional Japanese culture while fostering international exchanges, attracting numerous students and community members.
A highlight of the Special Japan Day was the Taiko drumming performance, held under clear blue skies. The powerful sounds of the drums resonated throughout the venue, allowing participants to experience the energy of taiko fully. A hands-on taiko drumming session was also available, where international and Japanese students enthusiastically participated, filling the venue with smiles and excitement.
Additionally, participants enjoyed traditional Japanese New Year’s games such as Hanetsuki (Japanese badminton), kite flying, and Fukuwarai (a paper-based face puzzle game). Hanetsuki and kite flying, in particular, proved immensely popular, with lively cheers enhancing the festive atmosphere. To add to the winter experience, Zenzai (sweet red bean soup) was served, providing a warm and comforting treat for attendees.
Osaka University of Tourism’s international exchange events have been in full swing since last year. This year’s events were further enriched with support from the Nakajima Memorial International Exchange Foundation. The organizers expressed their determination to make next year’s event even more engaging, aiming to enhance participant satisfaction. They also hope to expand local community involvement and develop the event into a tradition deeply rooted in the region.
