Exploring Italy’s Marche Region Through VR: A Special Event at Osaka University of Tourism
On June 5, 2025, Osaka University of Tourism hosted a special event in collaboration with the Trade Promotion Section of the Embassy of Italy: “VR × Tourism: Discovering Italy’s Marche Region”.
Held in connection with Expo 2025 Osaka–Kansai, the event showcased the charm of Italy’s Marche region, highlighting its rich history, culture, and tourism appeal. Guests were invited to explore the region through immersive VR technology and join networking sessions designed to foster future collaboration.
The event welcomed a range of distinguished guests, including Ms. Anna Menghi, member of the Marche Regional Council, and representatives from Senior S.r.l., an Italian tourism DX company. Local government officials from Kumatori Town and other partners also joined the gathering.
The program opened with a warm welcome from President Ryoji Yamada, who surprised attendees by singing a traditional Italian song, setting the tone for a day of cultural exchange. Councilor Menghi followed with remarks emphasizing the value of international cooperation in tourism and culture.
In the morning session, students enrolled in the Tourism DX course experienced a hands-on workshop and presentation. Their engagement reflected the growing interest in how digital tools like VR are reshaping the travel industry.
In the afternoon, faculty, staff, and local community members were invited to take part in the VR experience, offering a first-hand look at how technology can bring distant destinations closer than ever before.
Through initiatives like this, Osaka University of Tourism continues to promote global partnerships, contribute to regional development, and foster the next generation of tourism professionals.
