Faculty of Tourism’s Hosokawa Seminar Wins “Future Outlook Award” at the University Students’ IR Research Presentation

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, students from the Hosokawa Seminar (Specialized Seminar II) of the Faculty of Tourism participated in the “University Students’ Research Presentation on IR (Integrated Resorts),” held at the Knowledge Capital Conference Rooms (Grand Front Osaka North Building, 10th Floor) in Umekita, Osaka.

This research presentation serves as a platform for the next generation of leaders to explore the potential and challenges of the Osaka Integrated Resort (IR) from various perspectives, including “Future Vision,” “International Competitiveness,” “Smart Cities,” and “Risk Mitigation.”

This year, our university’s Hosokawa Seminar joined students from Ritsumeikan University, Hannan University, Tezukayama University, Kyoto Tachibana University, Osaka Metropolitan University, and Osaka University of Economics. Two teams representing the seminar presented on the following themes:

  • “Human Resources Needed for Osaka IR: A Perspective from International Students”

  • “Concerns Regarding Gambling Addiction and Effective Institutional Design”

The “International Student Team” proposed a vision for the workforce required for the IR, focusing on multicultural coexistence and Osaka’s growth as a global city.

The second team focused on the social risks associated with gambling addiction. By comparing international systems, they discussed highly effective institutional designs, including entry management and legal regulations.

The seminar’s sharp analysis of future society, built upon its classroom foundations, and its international comparative perspectives were highly acclaimed. As a result, the Hosokawa Seminar was honored with the “Future Outlook Award.” Mr. Hiroshi Mizohata, President of the Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau, presented the team with a certificate of merit and a commemorative gift.
