Meat Lovers and food ethics
Meat Lover is a group from Professor Takahashi’s seminar School of Human Science and Environment UOH. The name comes from loving meat as well as having an interest in food ethics, they aim to raise awareness and understanding in nutrition education.
We held a teaching session on nutrition education, particularly on the theme of the ‘protein crisis.
In December 2023, we held a class for over 10 children who applied for the class at the Nagisa Community Welfare Centre in Kobe.
We made a presentation about the “protein crisis” aimed at primary schoolers including that meat may not be available in the future and overpopulation is correlated to the protein crisis. After the lecture, a testing comparison was made between a meat patty and a soy meat patty.
This year the group focuses on the food crisis, especially on eggs, planning on giving out a presentation for children of their findings.
The children participated with enthusiasm and raised awareness towards SDGs, some commented “I want to eat food other than meat because I learned there are other foods that contain protein too.”
