Student SDGs Promoter Organized a Seminar on “Palestine in Focus”

On Thursday, November 23rd, Student SDGs Promoter planned and held a seminar on human rights issues. The seminar was conducted in a hybrid format, both on campus and online. Ms. Sajedah Yousef, a second-year master’s student from Nuclear Technology and a Student SDGs Promoter, served as the lecturer. She explained human rights issues, with a particular focus on the daily lives of the Palestinian people, using materials in both English and Japanese.

Ms. Yousef, who is from Jordan, explained the current situation in neighboring Palestine in an easy-to-understand manner, based on real information and her own experiences. In Japan, there are few opportunities to think about human rights issues in faraway places. However, at the seminar, students learned about “an environment where children cannot study without fear” and “the current situation where the right to life is restricted.” Some students shed tears when they saw the tragic reality of the situation.

These human rights issues are related to Goal 16 of the SDGs and are an important issue that affects many of the goals. The seminar was a valuable one in the promotion of the SDGs as a United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) SDGs Hub University. We will continue to actively support student activities and make university-wide efforts to achieve the SDGs.
