Introduction of SHOWA University

Introduction of Showa University Showa University was established in 1928. We’re now Japan’s top comprehensive medical university with four schools: Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing and rehabilitation sciences. We have four campuses located in and around Tokyo, including a fully-residential campus near Mt. Fuji (Fujiyoshida campus) for all 1st-year students. Showa University also owns and operates 8 hospitals and 1 clinic. Our school’s philosophy is “Shisei Ikkan” (至誠一貫), which means to contribute to our society with absolute sincerity and dedication. Based on this philosophy, Showa University has emphasized “interprofessional education” that nurtures not only knowledge, and skills, but also inter-disciplinary communication and collaboration, which are necessary in today’s medical care. We conduct activities related to the UN Academic Impact in each field of education, research, and medical care, with particular focus on the following principles: Principle 4: A commitment to the opportunity for every interested individual to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for the pursuit of higher education. Principle 5: A commitment to building capacity in higher education systems across the world. Principle 10: A commitment to promoting inter-cultural dialogue and understanding, and the “unlearning” of intolerance, through education.
