Nagaoka University of Technology registered as a sponsor for the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD2022).

We have endorsed and registered as a sponsor for the United Nations International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD2022), which began on Thursday, June 30.

At the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, December 2, 2021, Member States promulgated the year 2022 (June 30, 2022 to June 30, 2023) as the IYBSSD. The initiative invites stakeholders to observe and raise awareness of the importance of basic sciences for sustainable development. Within Japan, the Science Council of Japan is heading up the promotion effort as an IYBSSD supporting organization.

As an IYBSSD sponsor, we will hold events and disseminate information with a focus on the relationship between basic sciences and sustainable development. In doing so, we will raise awareness, both inside and outside the University, of “the high value for humankind of basic sciences” and the “enhanced global awareness of, and increased education in, the basic sciences is vital to attain sustainable development and to improve the quality of life for people all over the world.” Moreover, as a UNAI SDG9 Hub University, we will work actively to convey the connections between basic sciences and the SDGs while striving to realize a sustainable society through GIGAKU and basic sciences.
