Nagaoka University of Technology holds an SDG Talk Seminar in collaboration with partners in industry, academia, government, and finance

On Tuesday, November 29, a hybrid-format SDG Talk Seminar was held with co-sponsorship from organizations in industry, academia, government, and finance.

The topic of the lectures given was “Guidelines for Sustainable Regional and Corporate Growth,” with three presenters: Prof. ISHIDA Hideki (Chairman of the Sustainable Management Promotion Organization/ Representative Partner of the Earth Village Research Lab LLC/ Professor Emeritus, Tohoku University/ Specially Appointed Professor, Kyoto University), Ms. WAKABAYASHI Etsuko (Executive Director, Tsubameito Public Interest Incorporated Association), and Prof. YUKAWA Takashi of Nagaoka University of Technology. The lecture served as an opportunity to promote efforts aimed at realizing a sustainable society together with businesses and local residents.
In addition, one of the co-sponsoring organizations, Daishi Hokuetsu Bank, Ltd., provided an explanation of how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are working toward the SDGs, including examples and initiatives taken by the bank.

We received a positive response from participants, including comments such as, “It gave me a sense of urgency about why we need to work toward the SDGs,” “It made me consider the importance of back-cast thinking and understanding student perspectives,” and “I now understand digital transformation.” We also received some valuable feedback for future lectures.

Over 90 people attended the event, either on-site or online. It was a great success, with participants from outside Niigata Prefecture also joining us online.
As the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) SDG 9 Global Hub University, we will continue to promote the SDGs among the residents of Nagaoka and more widely throughout society and to conduct activities that contribute to achieving the SDGs, as well as research, technological development, and education that drive innovation and contribute to society.
