Nagaoka University of Technology faculty member gave a lecture on the SDGs at the “7th Web Seminar of SDGs Niigata.”

On December 2 (Thursday), Prof. NANKO Makoto (Director of Office for SDGs Promotion) gave a lecture at the “Niigata Advertising Association Seminar / 7th Seminar of SDGs Niigata,” a hybrid event held locally at Niigata Nippo MEDIA SHIP and streamed online.

In the first part, Prof. Nanko gave a lecture titled “Energizing Companies! How to Tackle the SDGs Beyond Volunteer Perspective,” in which he talked about the basic of SDGs, examples of SDG activities by exemplary companies in Niigata Prefecture, and the potential of tourism that utilize nature and culture. He also introduced our “Beach Cleanup × Learning” event, which was held on October 9 (Saturday) at Gomoto Beach in Nagaoka City as part of our efforts to raise awareness of the SDGs among the public.

In the second part, Prof. Nanko and Ms. YAMADA Ayano (President of the NPO Lily & Marry’S) whom we also collaborated with for “Beach Cleanup × Learning” event, talked on “Possibilities for Business from a SDGs Perspective.”

The participants had this to say about the event: “The lectures were powerful and engaging, and it was very interesting,” and, “Not only in Niigata prefecture, it seems that there is still a sense among the majority of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) throughout Japan that the SDGs are not relevant with them, so I felt that the first thing we need to do is to break that deadlock.”

We expect this seminar to help accelerate efforts to tackle the SDGs by SMEs in Niigata Prefecture.
